"This isn't really my idea of a good time"

I have to agree. I also have turret set to joystick, and chassis set to rudders, which seems to be the way the game wants to be played, and targeting is very problematic. One seems to get best results from this game playing via keyboard. But then, what's the use of all this analog control gear?

A problem you don't mention is that the end of the range (when your torso is near 90 degrees) is where the joystick is at it's most unstable and nonlinear. The more you take the torso off center, the more problematic the control.

The documentation describes a circling attack that can't be done with the joystick. This reminds me of Origin's habit of describing maneuvers (spiraling attacks, for instance) that the controls won't let you do.

Every once in awhile I fire up Mech II and run a trial, but the controls are so awkward I get frustrated and put the CD back in it's box. This isn't really my idea of a good time. If being frustrated was fun, I'd just stay longer at work.

I want something I can *drive*. The problems controlling Mech II from the joystick makes it a button pushing game.
