I'm not sure about the campaign missions, but in MercNet, destroying just one leg of a mech does not, in fact, destroy the mech. It just sits there, staring at the ground. Once you destroy the other leg, it explodes, just as before. _Then_, it's considered destroyed.

Based on this observation, it would appear that you _still_ have to destroy both legs (or a torso section) of a mech to have the game consider it destoyed. And, when you do, it explodes (which, in itself, is stupid). So my question, then, is: just how can you supposedly get any worthwhile salvage from a mech that has just disintegrated itself all over the battlefield? *boggle*
