Lines: 28 Message-ID: <32532741.66E2@activision.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: u158.activision.com Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: Mozilla 2.01Gold (Win95; I) Status: RO As was done with MechWarrior 2, we will patch Mercenaries based on feedback we've gotten here in the newsgroup. Thanks to those who have sent in constructive feedback. Our goal is to have the patch ready this month. REGARDING BUGS: There have been some legitimate reports of bugs that will be fixed. Except for hardware specific problems, most fall in the annoyance category. Apologies for missing these; we will take the time to make sure we have a complete and bug-free patch before we release it. Please see the FAQ on our web page (http://www.activision.com) for work-arounds that have been identified. REGARDING PERFORMANCE: I wish the game ran at 1024x768 on my Pentium too, but no amount of flame mail will make your CPU run faster (trust me: this theory has been tested). We've made all of the new features togglable, so if your machine can't handle the game with all features on, TURN SOME OFF. If your machine can't handle running the game at 640x480 or 1024x768, TURN THE RESOLUTION DOWN. There's a reason the default resolution is 320x200. REGARDING INTERFACE: It was necessary to redesign the mech lab to incorporate the in-game economy, and to more closely adhere to BattleTech specs. There are a handful of problems that have been reported, and these will all be addressed in the patch. We will also address the usability concerns that have been posted, albeit within the new interface design. REGARDING 3D-ACCELERATION: It is a complicated task to port our 3D engine to accelerator cards. Do NOT send me e-mail about how you think it should be out already; if you think can write 3D-accelerated combat sims faster than we can, please e-mail me your resume . FINAL NOTE: Thanks to everyone who has stood behind Mercs and Activision. Our sincere apologies for missing some bugs; this is one hell of a complex game. We do care about creating a perfect game, and we will respond to all the comments we've gotten here in patches. Tim Morten
