It looks like Activision has released a small patch. According to actsearch@aol.com:

This should fix the joystick problem some have had with a drift to the left. It should also fix the problem some have had with the Netmech demo where one of the players wouldn't get beyond the drop ship screen. After the archive has been unzipped, copy the four of the dll files on top of the similarly named files to the GIDDI directory under MECH2.

Now it looks like the patch may cause more problems than it's worth. From actsearch@aol.com:
This should fix the joystick problem some have had with a drift to the left. It should also fix the problem some have had with the Netmech demo where one of the players wouldn't get beyond the drop ship screen. However, the patch has reportedly been giving some players more trouble. The patch will be revised and rereleased this week. No determinations have been made regarding further patches. We will keep you informed on further developments.
